Everyone has secrets, right?
What really matters is how far you’ll go to protect them.
I’m speechless after finishing ‘One Of Us Is Lying’. This novel is an extraordinary read which covers controversial, dark, and deep topics. ‘One Of Us Is Lying’ is definitely not for the faint-hearted, considered yourself warned.
I’ve always enjoyed mystery, thriller novels that consistently keeps you guessing and questioning what you are reading. Throughout the course of ‘One Of Us Is Lying’, I find myself constantly guessing which character is the murderer and his/her motives for killing Simon. How far they have to go in order to pull off the elaborate stunt. At the end of the novel, I’m just totally mind-blown. I totally didn’t anticipate or even thought that will happen.
What is so brilliant about Karen’s writing is how she portray the 4 main characters’ everyday mundane lives. Well, not technically mundane but you get what I mean. Their actions and words have never in a single instance make me suspect either one of them to be a suspect, that is if I inferred their personality and character adequately. I find myself consistently trying to dig out information or leads that could make me pinpoint the real culprit but, at the end of the day, I always come out empty-handed or back to square one.
I love how the author pulls off the real secret Cooper is trying to hide from the start. I didn’t see that coming and yes, I got totally mind-blown. I even have to re-read the sentence several times just to make sure my eyes aren’t playing tricks on me. I’m sure Cooper is relief that the truth is finally revealed. I can tell that the hiding and lying has make him extremely frustrated and paranoid.
Out of all the characters in ‘One Of Us Is Lying’, Addy is the only one with tremendous character growth. She is the only one who has matured the most from this incident and is no longer the person whose life is controlled by her boyfriend. Instead, she learns to take charge of her own life, have her own opinions, and decide what is best for herself.
If I were to nick-pick, the only aspect which can be improved on would be the chemistry between Nate and Bronwyn. I kind of hoped that there would be more development in their chemistry rather than it being like a sudden infatuation. Regardless, I ship all the couples in this novel. ❤
